About

The Alex Canja Story

It’s the remarkable story of one man’s triumph as he went from orphan to executive, from being alone to creating an extended family of grateful graduates of what we now call his Flying Eagle Formula. It’s the story of how he took what he knew of what a boy needs to succeed and created a deeply meaningful program to deliver it…

A Tribute to Tess

She may be tiny in height, but not in impact. Dearly loved, Tess loves to help others. Committed to making a difference in the world, whether big or small, she has been a role model and mentor. One of her greatest legacies is the example she has set of not letting fear stop her from taking on new challenges. And in a lifetime of achievement, the success of those she has nurtured, helped and encouraged has brought her the greatest joy.

Dick and Gloria Black

Dick Black was a high school basketball star in Reliance, South Dakota, and totally focused on practice, practice, practice…until one day when practice in the gym was suddenly interrupted. The word spread that girls from a nearby town were ice skating nearby! A “time-out” was called and the boys forgot about practice and abandoned the gym. Dick spent a lot of time that day talking to a cute cheerleader from a rival school and something clicked. That was the day that lucky future athletes and even luckier future campers got a second set of loving parents.

The Story of Crooked Lake

In 1934 there were no roads to Crooked Lake. The drive that today takes 20 minutes from the closest town of Frederic, took three-and-a-half hours through deep sand. That was the situation when three young couples in Royal Oak, Michigan, became fast friends. How they came to purchase Crooked Lake for only 25 cents an acre and what Up North was really like in those early years is a story put together by Tess in 1998. And now you can read it, too.
